spu during summer=awkward.
i work as a temp at SPU during the summer and so far i've seen my fair share of "perks": 1) the lady at subway knows me and anticipates how i like my sandwich (life goal of going into a restaurant and ordering "the usual", CHECK!), 2) parking is easy (i mean, i'm sure thats sweet for people who have cars), 3) there are always gwinn cookies lying around for conferences, 4) no lines at the library!
i'm become accustom to wandering the empty halls of demaray hall and scrounge like a scavenger in the classrooms that just emptied from summer classes...so far, i haven't found any treasures but that day will come. its not uncommon for me to have a 3 second chat with prez phil everyday or strike up a conversation with someone in admissions about how slow the microwave is. ya, life is good for SPU temp staff.
sour side? the freaks. people, there are some freaking weird people at SPU wandering the loop. they feed the squirrels, they spend 40 minutes ordering a sandwich at subway and they have impossible requests for my office.
today i had a run in with such a freak. i was standing at the subway line per usual (i've mentioned subway 3 times in this post already...i'm not sure what that says about me) and i was GROPED. a wannabe hipster stuck his hand in my left front pocket...except i was wearing spandex so there wasn't a pocket to grab. unfortunately all i could muster was, "uh what?" he apologized and we continued to stay in the subway line and ignore each other. i am not sure why this is okay. i'm not sure why the person next to me saw it and acted like it wasn't weird. most of all, i'm wondering why i was so desperate for a turkey sub that i wouldn't get out of the sandwich line. who's the freak now?
I freaking love this post :) I remember you telling us that story...strange people populate SPU in the summer, strange people.
