you da you da best..or not.

two posts in one day. another day at the office.

have you ever realized how hard it is to enter a hobby? sure, there are some hobbies like knitting, skiing, and collecting stamps that have very little expectation from the get go. you can be bad at those things for years before people think twice about it. however, i'm finding how difficult it is to enter into photography. right away you're putting yourself out there to be judged. photography snobs love to play the question game:
"so what kind of camera do you use?" "what sort of editing software do you have?" "how many lenses do you have?"
photography is NOT the sort of sport where you're allowed to be an amateur. rather, you are judged and judged harshly from day ONE.

i'd like to go back to the days where people think "you know, i think it's great he/she is trying!" NOW you have to be the best at everything right away and are expected to be taking night classes in private to become pro at your hobby. i plan on stopping this cycle. rather than DRILL the next new photographer i meet, i'm going to take the "parent-encouraging-their-kid-who-just-started-tball" approach. "great job kid! i'm excited to see what sort of stuff you come up with! i'm proud of you."
